Kolkata sees an 18% dip in hiring activity in January &rsquo15 over January &rsquo14

  • The Insurance sector saw a decline in hiring with the index moving down by 22% year on year in January &rsquo15.
  • The Pharma sector saw a 5% increase in their hiring activity

Kolkata, January 2015
The Naukri Job Speak Index for Kolkata, for the month of January &rsquo15 was at 1318 indicating an 18% decline in hiring activity when compared to January 2014. Among the key sectors in the city, Pharma saw an increase of 5% in January&rsquo15 when compared to last year.
V Suresh, Executive VP and Chief Sales Officer, Naukri.com said &ldquoDespite the negative growth in the Job Speak Index for January 2015, in my view the overall sentiments are positive and the hiring outlook for the rest of the year is likely to move north driven steady recovery of the global economy and domestic demand.

Industry Sector Analysis:
Sectors like Telecom and Banking saw a significant increase of 29% and 45% respectively in their hiring activities in January 15&rsquo over January 14&rsquo. However, sectors like Construction and Engineering saw a dip of 14% in January 15 over January 14. The Auto sector recorded a decline of 5% in hiring activity over the same period.

Functional Area Analysis:
Hiring of Project Management, and Production and Maintenance professionals saw a dip of 19% in January 15 over January 14. However a reverse trend was seen for the HR and Finance professionals where the numbers went up by 15% and 6% respectively over the same period.
